Aftercare San Diego
Long-term continuing care after primary addiction treatment in San Diego. Outpatient therapy, alumni programming, medication management, and peer support — the structure that keeps recovery durable beyond the first 90 days.
Why aftercare matters
Primary treatment — detox, residential, PHP — lays the foundation. Aftercare is what keeps the foundation standing. Research consistently shows that the first 90 days after primary treatment are the highest-risk period for relapse. Structured aftercare during that window dramatically improves long-term outcomes.
What our aftercare includes
- Step-down outpatient therapy (PHP, IOP, or standard outpatient)
- Alumni events and ongoing peer community
- Medication-Assisted Treatment maintenance when appropriate
- Continued dual-diagnosis psychiatric care
- Family therapy and support groups
- Connection to 12-step, SMART Recovery, or other peer support
How aftercare is built
Every Pacific Bay Recovery client leaves with a personalized aftercare plan built before discharge. The plan is based on your clinical situation, your home environment, your work and family circumstances, and your specific risk factors. It is not a generic handout — it is a structured roadmap for the next 6 to 12 months.
How long aftercare lasts
Active structured aftercare typically runs 6 to 12 months. Ongoing alumni connection and peer support continue indefinitely. We stay in touch with alumni for the long term — the recovery community at Pacific Bay Recovery does not end at discharge.
Common questions about aftercare
Is aftercare covered by insurance?
The clinical components (outpatient therapy, MAT, psychiatric care) are covered by most insurance plans. Alumni programming and peer support are typically offered free of charge.
Do I have to do aftercare?
Aftercare is strongly recommended but not mandated. Research shows clients who engage in structured aftercare have dramatically better long-term outcomes than those who do not.
Can I get aftercare if I did not do primary treatment at Pacific Bay Recovery?
Yes. We accept aftercare clients from other programs and from independent recovery starts.
What if I relapse during aftercare?
Relapse is part of the recovery process for many people. Our clinical team will reassess your situation and recommend the right next level of care — which might mean stepping back up to PHP or even residential. The goal is sustained recovery, not punishment.
