Outpatient Rehab San Diego
Structured outpatient addiction treatment in San Diego County. Three levels of outpatient care — PHP, IOP, and standard outpatient — designed for clients with stable home support who need clinical structure without 24/7 residential care.
What outpatient rehab is
Outpatient rehab is structured addiction treatment that lets you live at home, in sober living, or with family while attending therapy and clinical programming on a scheduled basis. It can be a step-down from residential care, or the right starting level for clients with milder use or strong home support.
Our three outpatient levels
- Partial Hospitalization (PHP) — 5 days/week, 6 hours/day. Most intensive non-residential option.
- Intensive Outpatient (IOP) — 3 to 5 days/week, 3 hours per session. Balances clinical support with normal life.
- Standard Outpatient — 1 to 2 sessions per week. Ongoing maintenance after intensive treatment.
Who outpatient is for
Outpatient is right when you have a stable, sober home environment, when work or family responsibilities make residential difficult, when you have completed detox or residential and are stepping down, or when your clinical situation does not require 24/7 supervision.
What outpatient includes
- Individual therapy with a master’s-level clinician
- Group therapy with peers in similar stages of recovery
- Family therapy and educational programming
- Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) when appropriate
- Dual-diagnosis support for co-occurring mental health conditions
- Drug testing and accountability structure
Common questions about outpatient rehab
Can I work full-time during outpatient?
Yes — IOP and standard outpatient are designed around that. We offer morning and evening tracks. PHP is more intensive (6 hours/day, 5 days/week) and typically requires reduced work hours.
Does outpatient work as well as inpatient?
It depends on the clinical situation. For clients with stable home environments and lower acuity, outpatient produces excellent outcomes. For clients in destabilizing home environments or with severe co-occurring conditions, inpatient is more effective.
Does insurance cover outpatient rehab?
In most cases, yes. All three outpatient levels (PHP, IOP, standard) are covered levels of care under most insurance plans.
How long is outpatient treatment?
PHP typically runs 2 to 6 weeks. IOP runs 4 to 12 weeks. Standard outpatient can continue for months to a year or more. Length is individualized.
